Dream Goals 2015 + January Action Goals

Dream goals and the action steps to achieve them

Oh heyyyyy, it’s 2015 y’all!

Welcome to the first post of the new year! I want to say thank you to everyone who gave such positive feedback on my year in review post. Your support and kind words mean so much to me and are such a motivator – I truly appreciate all the love.

To kick off this new year I wanted to share my Dream Goals for 2015.

Dream goals are my version of a resolution. I call them dream goals because I like the idea of chasing a dream rather than “sticking to a resolution” – that’s too restrictive for me.

Dreams can grow and change, resolutions are either kept or broken.

I also want to share my dream goals with you all because it’s been said that once you put something out into the universe, it will help to get you there.

So consider this is my attempt at asking the universe for some good juju. 😀

Without further ado – here are my 2015 Dream Goals:

1. Become a full-time freelance writer

Starting with the hardest one for me to put out there first. I’m finally accepting and owning the fact that I want to write and I want to make a living doing it. This scares the bejeezus out of me, but also fills me with excitement and joy at the same time. I finally feel like I’m heading in the right direction with my life and it’s glorious.

2. Have a beautiful and joyful wedding

It’s wedding season at the KATNP headquarters. With the new year, DCT and I are finally putting our party planning hats on. My dress was delivered to me the other day and it’s making the fact I’m getting married (holy shit I’m getting married.) feel that much more real.

3. Become an active member of my church community

I was with an awesome church – Urban Village – last year, but unfortunately fell out of attendance near the end of the year as I became busy with work. I really do miss the people – it was such a positive part of my life. So I want to make an effort to start attending and become an active member again.

4. Get out more – Stay active & healthy

This is a bit broad of a goal, but if there was one thing I did right during 2014, it was staying healthy (minus my month of illness in December).

Working out and staying fit is never about weight loss for me, but about feeling strong in my body. There’s something empowering about being able to do 20 burpees in a row – even though I think burpees are the most evil thing man has ever created.

Finally, I say ‘get out more’, because I indulged in my hermit tendencies a lot this past year. And I’ve learned doing so is no good for my creativity. I need to get out and experience the world around me. It’s by far how I’ve come up with my best content.

Now, having dream goals are great, but it doesn’t do much good if you have no plan on how to achieve said dream goals.

Enter Action Goals.

Action goals are just that – goals that make you take action towards your dream goals.

Dream goals tend to be broad and all encompassing – it’s great that I want a “beautiful and joyful wedding” – but how am I going to get there?

The answer to that question is action goals – think of them as stepping stones to your big dream.

So with that, here are my action goals for the month of January:

1. Improve my craft as a writer by focusing on learning as much as I can.

2. Complete all this month’s tasks within our project management program for the wedding and mail Save the Date’s.

3. Take Sunday’s off from work to attend church service.

4. Spend mornings at coffee shops on my days off from Trunk Club.

5. Finish a “just for fun” book. {Currently reading Unbroken}

I’ll revisit these goals at the end of the month and share my progress with you all throughout the year.

I think this is going to be super helpful in keeping me accountable and, again, put those good vibes into the universe.

I’d love to hear from you as well – what are some of your dream goals this year? How are you taking action towards them?

Thanks for reading!

Happy New Year!

  1. Wow, I absolutely LOVE the idea of dream goals and action goals — especially action goals! I’m going to re-look at my list of goals for 2015 tonight and make a list of what actions will get me there. Thanks! Also, I absolutely KNOW you can achieve all that you put your mind to. Can’t wait to see your first post in 2016 about your first few months of being a full time freelance writer. 😉

  2. One of my goals for this year is to read at least one book for fun each month! I really enjoy reading and with school it can be hard to read something that you want to read-not something that’s required to read. So yeah that’s one of my goals! Action goals are a great idea and I think I should try doing that as well!

  3. I know what you mean about being scared of owning the title, “writer” as a career. I’m publishing my first book in 2 months and I have to say, i feel like a pregnant woman on steroids because one day it’s like YAY the next day is like “wth did i get myself into?” LOL! Ah well. It’s all about the journey right? :)

    • That’s so exciting! Congrats lady! I totally get the ups and downs in emotions, I’m not at book writing level yet, but I can definitely see it in the future. Best of luck with your book!
