4 Holiday Red Lipsticks for Dark Skinned Beauties

4 of my favorite holiday red lipsticks that are perfect to wear throughout the season and beyond.

Tis the season for red lips!

While this color is en vogue all year long, I find myself especially inclined to add a pop of the rich crimson hue to my smile during the holidays.

Red lipstick is one of those magical colors that works for everyone, especially us dark skinned beauties. Because the color red comes in a plethora of shades and richness of hues you’re practically guaranteed to find more than one that perfectly matches you!

To prove my point, here are 4 of my favorite holiday red lipsticks that are perfect to wear throughout the season and beyond.

Cranberry Red {Chanel Rogue Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Colour in Taffetas Rose}

This shade is one of my favorite every day lipsticks. Not too bold, but not too muted. It gives me enough color on my lips that it looks like I put effort into getting ready, even when I just roll out of bed 😉

Ruby Red {L’Oreal Colour Riche in True Red}

Reminiscent of a ruby gem, this is slightly darker, juicier (hence ruby) red. And looks even more glamorous when paired with a fancy party dress and tall glass of champagne.

Bright Red {NYX Matte Lipstick in Pure Red}

This is a fire-engine-look-at-me shade of red. There are more orange undertones which makes it brighter and pop especially against darker skin.

Classic Red {Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rich Girl Red}

When I picture Marilyn Monroe’s classic red lips, this is the shade that comes to mind. It’s a richer red and is perfect for those days when you want to add little extra glam to your day.

Wondering how you can find the perfect shades for you? Here are a few tips:

  1. Consider your skin’s undertones – generally speaking those with darker skin should go for warmer reds with hues of orange. However your perfect shade of red is also determine by your skin’s undertones. Those with a warm golden undertone should look for reds with a yellow or brown base. If your skin is more cool with red or blue undertones, then deep reds with a blue base tend to work best. Finally if your skin has olive undertones, then reds with a neutral base are the ones for you!
  2. Consider the brightness – As we’ve discussed not all reds are created equal. Not only when it comes to shade but also in terms of intensity and brightness. Decide if you want a hue that’s bright and bold or muted and soft for everyday.
  3. Consider the finish – It’s not just about the color, but also the finish. Do you want something for longer wear like a matte, something creamy and moisturizing, or something super glossy with high shine. Again, the options are endless.
