simply blog: 140 {plus!} power words to use & influence your readers

power-words-header-1

Have you ever noticed how some bloggers are masters at pulling on your emotional heart strings?

Whether they’re ecstatic about a pair of designer shoes they found for a steal, sharing a funny story, or opening up about something deep and personal to them. They have a way of making you feel all the feelings.

That’s the stamp of a great and influential blogger, my friends.

We all want to influence our readers in some way. Whether it’s to impress them, excite them, make them cautious, get them angry, encourage them – we want them to feel a certain way when reading our posts.

The better you do at making your readers feel, the more influential you become.

So you’re probably wondering, well...how do I make my readers feel all the feelings?

While great writers have a whole tool chest of techniques to help them pull at a reader’s emotions, there is one simple technique that can help get you going.

Meet your new favorite tool: power words.

What are power words?

Rather than tell you, let me show you.

Here’s an excerpt from a speech by Michelle Obama at the 2012 Democratic National Convention:

“If farmers and blacksmiths could win independence from an empire…if immigrants could leave behind everything they knew for a better life on our shores…if women could be dragged to jail for seeking the vote…if a generation could defeat a depression, and define greatness for all time…if a young preacher could lift us to the mountaintop with his righteous dream…and if proud Americans can be who they are and boldly stand at the altar with who they love…then surely, surely we can give everyone in this country a fair chance at that great American Dream.”

Pretty moving, right?

Let’s take a look at it again, this time focusing on a few words:

“If farmers and blacksmiths could win independence from an empire…if immigrants could leave behind everything they knew for a better life on our shores…if women could be dragged to jail for seeking the vote…if a generation could defeat a depression, and define greatness for all time…if a young preacher could lift us to the mountaintop with his righteous dream…and if proud Americans can be who they are and boldly stand at the altar with who they love…then surely, surely we can give everyone in this country a fair chance at that great American Dream.”

The words you see underlined are what you’d consider power words – they’re words that stir emotions deep inside.

Start sprinkling power words into your blog posts and you’ll immediately notice the life it brings to your writing.

Now if only you had a list of power words to refer to, right?

Well it’s your lucky day! Below are a list of 140+ power words to help strengthen your posts.

I’ve broken the list into 4 sections according to what type of emotion you’re looking to evoke.

Peruse through & enjoy!
