My Top 4 Takeaways from Simply Stylist Chicago | #SSCHI

Hi all! This Saturday I had the opportunity to attend the fashion & beauty conference, Simply Stylist, here in Chicago. This was my first time attending and it was a great time hanging with fellow bloggers – Maya, Maritza, & Melissa, meeting new faces, and gaining valuable insight about the industry. I love going to large conferences like Simply Stylist as I always feel super motivated afterwards.

The conference was held at the Dana Hotel & Spa downtown and started off with a networking brunch – made easier with jugs of mimosas 😉 – and a deeply motivating welcome speech by Lauren Gores.

Following the brunch we headed to the rooftop lounge where we listened to a panel discussion filled with inspiring, funny, and empowering women including Catt Sadler of E! News, Allison Cooke, Dir. of Marketing for CS Magazine, Annie Finch of Katherine Cosmetics, Stephanie Mark, Co-founder of The Covetuer, and Wendy of Wendy’s Lookbook.

It was enlightening to hear all the different stories of how each panelist got to where they are today. It truly showed there’s no cookie-cutter way to achieve your dreams.

I also got to cross off an item on my blogger bucket list as I got to chat with Wendy and tell her how her blog was one of the first I started following religiously. She was just as sweet as she sounds on her blog – it was a major moment for this little blogger, read: I was geeking out HARD (there’s photographic proof below of me cheesing like crazy).

After the panel discussion there were a variety of break-out sessions and brand experiences to fill the rest of the afternoon. All in all it was a great way to spend a Saturday :)

Keep scrolling for photos as well as my top 4 takeaways from the day.

Just Do It

The key to getting started with either a blog, business, or project, is to just do it. You can do all the planning in the world, but there’s nothing like taking the big leap of faith and starting today.

Have a post idea you’ve been debating? A brand you’d love to collaborate with? Do that post, reach out to that brand. Yes, it could fail miserably – but it could also be your big break. And in the end, at least you can say you did it.

Do The Best You Know How

You may not know how to do everything right away, but doing the best you know how in the moment can lead to more opportunities and personal growth. Whether you’re an intern at the bottom of the totem pole or the leader of a growing team, always do the best you know how and be open to learn how to do better.

Everyone Has A Different Story

It was evident everyone came from a different background and traveled various paths to where they are today. It goes to show there is no ultimate step-by-step guide to success. It’s about perseverance, passion, being willing, and trusting in your gut.

Be Nice. Be Authentic.

This goes without saying – being a nice person will take you places. But wherever you go and whatever you do, be authentic. Not just to others, but to yourself. Understand who you are, what you want to present to the world and stay true to that. As they say, there’s only one you!

Simply Stylist Chicago only happens once a year, so they won’t be back till 2015. If you weren’t able to make it this year I hope this post inspires you to attend the next time they’re in town!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

’till next time

xx

  1. I just read your review on your experience with Simply Stylist! I think I am going to purchase the Fashion & Beauty Lover ticket this year but hopefully, I will be able to purchase the VIP one in the future! Will you be coming to the conference this year?
