And we’re back with the 3rd installment of the Dressing for Your Body Series. This post is all about the inverted triangle.
With this shape your body is characterized by a bottom half that is smaller than your top. Meaning you most likely have very strong shoulders. Therefore your #1 goal in achieving visual balance is to soften your shoulder line and add more volume to your lower half.
You can achieve this by sticking to simple, clean-lined tops and adding any volume enhancing or detailed pieces to your bottom half. Flared dresses and nipped jackets are going to be your best pieces to invest in.
I would recommend avoiding any necklines that make you broader on top, such as wide scoop, square, or boatneck. As well as items that extend or accentuate your shoulders such as puff sleeves or shoulder pads.
This is not to say you shouldn’t embrace your beautiful shoulder line. Rock a strapless dress to show them off, just be sure to add curves to your lower half to balance everything out.
