Dressing for Your Body // The Apple

Welcome to the third part of the Dressing for Your Body Series! Today we’re going to go over dressing the apple body shape. I’ll be honest, the apple shape is one of the more difficult shapes to find visual balance – but once you know where to focus and what to look for when shopping, putting together the perfect fashion cocktail will become second nature.

With an apple shape, you tend to have little to no waist definition and carry more weight in your midsection. Therefore – to achieve visual balance – your #1 focus is to slim your midriff and define your waist.

You can accomplish this by investing in clothing with straight to slightly fitted lines in soft fabrics that skim past your midsection. Similar to the rectangle shape, waist belts and nipped garments are must-haves to help bring definition to your waistline. However, avoid skinny belts as they can make your waist look wider in comparison.

As an apple, your best assets are typically your bust and legs – don’t be shy about showing them off! Wear low necklines (invest in lots of v-necks!) to show off your décolletage or draw attention to your legs with detailing on the hemlines of skirts and dresses. Emphasizing your upper or lower half will draw the attention away from your midsection and slim your silhouette.
