I believe most people fall into two areas when it comes to the topic of a summer romper – you either love them or you hate them. They can be a tricky article of clothing, one part dress yet one part shorts, they’re a little reminiscent of what you wore as a 2-year old, and the fact you have to essentially strip down just to go to the bathroom is enough to turn people away.
It’s understandable they’re not for everyone, however I consistently find myself fascinated by them every summer.
While you often find rompers styled within the summer festival street style circuit – seen here and here recently at Coachella. I love coming across them outside of festivals or the beach scene – maybe dressed up for a chic event (perfection) or casually worn for an afternoon at the coffee shop (like les Parisians). It’s an unexpected piece and a great expression of your personal style.
Here I’ve added some masculine elements including a saddle shoe and men’s belt (
stolen borrowed from DCT’s side of the closet, of course 😉 ). Paired with a tailored cropped blazer this gives the romper a fresh update, without trying too hard. I would feel equally comfortable wearing this to meet with a client, go on an coffee date, or attend an impromptu event that night.
Now while I don’t recommend running out and filling your closet with all sorts of styles and colors, if you’re willing to search for your perfect match, you’ll find a romper can come in handy as a fun statement item for the summer.
