Hi everyone! Happy St. Paddy’s Day! I hope you all have recovered from any celebratory activities this weekend 😉
Yesterday was a big day for myself as I turned another year older (and perhaps wiser?), it was a really great day and probably will go down as one of my favorite birthdays, I just felt so much love and joy from everyone – it was amazing. I celebrated with a brunch at one of my favorite restaurants with such a fantastic group of friends – it was great conversation, yummy cocktails, and stellar food. And I honestly couldn’t have been happier.
This birthday really snuck up on me, usually I’m able to mentally prepare myself for a few weeks, but alas I’ve been go, go, go all of March that I forgot to reflect on being 26. I don’t know about y’all, but I find that birthdays are a time for more reflection than the New Year. While I definitely think about resolutions during the new year, my birthday is a time I really evaluate and make new goals for the upcoming “birth” year.
Last year I made a list of 26 goals I hoped to accomplish by the time I reached 27, I had completely forgotten what any of them were and looking back I’m actually surprised/proud to say I accomplished quite a few – 13 to be exact, that’s at least half! While I’m super stoked I accomplished that many, this year I want to take a different approach to “goal-making”.
Over the past couple months I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching and introspective thinking. It was kind of making me go crazy, but also really enlightening. Being a budding entrepreneur I’ve started following various inspirational people who also happen to entrepreneurs including Hilary Rushford, Marie Forleo, and Danielle LaPorte.
Danielle is the creator of The Desire Map and the idea of living your life based on your core desired feelings. I saw her interview with Marie Forleo as well as read about her and the core desired feeling concept in Hilary Rushford’s book, and I became so intrigued and inspired by the concept (I even tried to casually ask DCT what he thought his core desired feelings were) that I decided to try and discover my own core desired feelings.
So over my birthday/St. Paddy’s Day weekend, instead of going out to rage like I would normally (ok, maybe not rage, but most likely have one too many dirty martini’s), I stayed in and worked on discovering my core desired feelings. Now you may think ‘how boring!‘, but really it was the most inspiring and enlightening (sneak peek, thats one of my core desired feelings!) experience and I’m really happy I took the time out and did it – especially on my birthday weekend.
So, with all that said, today instead of giving you a list of goals I hope to accomplish over my next birth year, I’d like to share my 4 core desired feelings, the North, South, East, and West of my heart (as Danielle magically explained it in her book). I hope/want/will strive to feel these 4 feelings everyday in everything that I do. So without further ado, my core desired feelings are…
I want to feel radiant in that I want this year to be bright, happy, joyful, and full of amazing delights!
I want to feel enlightened in that I want to grow my knowledge, skills, and spirituality as well as help grow that of others.
I want to feel connected to my fiance, family, friends, the barista of my new favorite coffee shop, and you (yes, you reading this right now).
I want to feel empowered in that I want to be able to direct and be in control of my life and the path I’m headed.
Radiant. Enlightened. Connected. Empowered.
I’m excited to start playing around with this even more to see how I can take my core desired feelings and work them into my every day life, and I’d definitely like to share with you all how this process goes.
For now, if you’re interested you can find Danielle’s Desire Map on Amazon, iTunes, or at your local Barnes & Noble.
How do you want to feel this year?
Thanks for reading!
